Building A Multifaceted Business & Brand with Gemma Watts

Building A Multifaceted Business & Brand with Gemma Watts

Today on the podcast I have the incredible Gemma Watts - Founder of the Glow Journal, host of the Glow Journal Podcast, writer, speaker, beauty influencer, this girl does it all!  This conversation was an honest insight in to the mind of someone who backed herself all the way and has created a multi layered business that fulfills her both professionally and personally.

We had an incredible chat about her journey from being headhunted by L'Oréal at 19, whilst being a full time fashion editor and studying at Uni.  Most people would freak out at the thought of juggling so much responsibility, but Gemma thrived in this environment.  Using that life experience, Gemma had the confidence and tools to launch her own business and has never looked back.

As much has her career achievements are astounding for someone so young, what really impressed me was Gemma’s maturity and confidence in herself.  She takes everything in her stride, backs herself and continues to thrive as a business owner, making sure she balances all the tiers that her brand involves.

It is so important to me to put young, successful role models to the forefront.  Women who are bold, not afraid to take massive action and back themselves wholeheartedly.  If you need inspiration on what it takes to work in the media space, or you are scared to work in more than one area, even if your heart is calling it, then this is the podcast for you.  Having multiple tiers in your business, doest have to make your life heart, it can tick all your creative boxes, if done right.

In today’s episode we discuss:

  • Gemma’s journey to the business owner she is

  • How real life experience can set you up for success in business

  • Ways to juggle multiple facets of a business and brand

  • The future of the beauty industry

Finding Balance Whilst Building An Empire with Giorgina Venzin

Today is a special edition of the podcast - I have taken a section of my live podcast recording with multiple cafe owner and entrepreneur, Giorgina Venzin, and am sharing it with you all today.  Known locally as a hospitality mogul, I was excited to hear Gina’s story of success and how she finds the time to take care of herself amongst all her endeavours.  This is a raw and honest conversation on the journey of business and how being your own boss can take sacrifice, but can be the best thing you ever do with your life.

This episode was recorded in Giorgina’s very own Paw Paw Cafe and it was inspiring to hear the story of how she came in to the family business, and turned it in to an empire.  This episode is jam packed with tips from growing on social media, to working with influencers, to coping with the stress and managing your own mental health - Gina was open and candid about her journey to success and the struggles she still faces today.

A lot of the time we are so busy making assumptions about people by what we see online, by their social media.  When you get the chance to sit down and have a genuine conversation with a true entrepreneur, it is interesting to hear the real side of success- both good and bad.  Being an entrepreneur isn’t all flashy cars and perfectly curated Instagram feeds- it’s hard work, tough decisions and huge workloads, especially in the hospitality industry.  Behind all the business though is an amazing human being with a massive heart and I am forever grateful for Gina who opened her cafe and heart to us all, this was a special interview I will never forget.

In today’s episode we discuss:

  • Giorgina’s journey from family business to multiple cafe owner and entrepreneur

  • How she has gained success on social media

Today on the podcast I have Nikki Ayres who is an Align Coach, Yoga Teacher, Speaker, Writer and runs amazing retreats.  We have an open and heart felt conversation about how to love yourself, and create a life that you deserve.

This episode blew me away.  I was already obsessed with Nikki and her instagram, but meeting her and getting to pick her brain was truely such an amazing experience.  Nikki has such a beautiful soul and believes her purpose on this earth is to spread love and job, something she does so magically.  Today I wanted to focus on what got Nikki to where she is today, and then dig a little more in to self love and alignment.

How To Be A Successful Social Media Influencer with Genevieve Day from Day Management

How To Be A Successful Social Media Influencer with Genevieve Day from Day Management

Dreamt of being a social media influencer?  Want to get paid to work with brands and represent the topics you are passionate about?  Want to know what managers are looking for when they represent influencers?  Or maybe you are a brand wanting to work with an influencer, but not sure where to start?  What does it mean to be an influencer in 2019 and what does the future of influencing look like?

Today, the word influencer is a common phrase, but with social media growing so fast, the lines can be blurred as to what a positive influencer looks like and does.  Nowadays, a large follower number doesn’t necessarily cut it anymore.  A strong brand message and great management can help create connections with brands and influencers so that both sides of the parties win.

It is also a common stereotype that an influencer just posts photos and goes to fun events and that is the end of it.  When in fact, it is now a business with a lot of negotiating, contracts and expectations.  It requires a lot of hard work and reach across multiple platforms in order to make sure you are reaching your clients demands and expectations.  It is an amazing space if you have a great vision and want to make genuine impact in others lives.

To help us unpack the influencer life from 3 different perspectives, I have Genevieve Day, Founder and CEO of Day Management on the podcast today who represents top tier influencers and talent and helps connect them with brands.  She has been in the PR industry since leaving high school and understands the social media space from a marketing perspective and from a brand and influencers perspective too.  I sat down with her and discussed what her job entails, what she looks for in talent and how to get in to the influencer space.  Genevieve is an incredible entrepreneur who saw a gap in the market and has really merged herself with, in my opinion, some of the most influential and positive role models/ talent online in 2019.

In today’s episode we discuss:

  • How Genevieve took a chance and started her business when she saw a gap in the market

  • What are the biggest trends on social media this year

  • What it is like to work as a manager

  • How to be an successful influencer

I talk about manifestation A LOT on this podcast, but I find it so fascinating.  There is so much to learn, and everyone has something different that works for them, and I want to share as much information with you as possible.

One problem I have felt myself is that I was scared to feel negative energy.  I was worried if I spoke about my negative emotions, I would put it out in to the world and only more negative things would happen to me, but this isn’t the case…

Another problem I have heard a lot of my clients talk about is that they are putting in the work, but they still feel like they are not breaking through…

So today I really wanted to dig deep in to what to do when you are struggling with the process.  When things don’t go to plan or you feel like you are going down the wrong track.  How do we pull ourselves out of a funk and make sure we are putting the right work in towards achieving our goals.

To help me unpack this all, I am speaking with Mikayla Jai today who is Manifestation and Mindset Coach who, through the use of manifestation, turned her life from a “shit show, to front row” she has paid for college, gone on paid overseas trips and lives a luxe lifestyle, all at the age of 21.  She accredits all her success to changing her mindset and through a consistent manifestation practice.  Her story is completely relatable, which I think will really help you all understand that manifestation doesn’t just work for lucky people, everyone can get get what they want, it is purely a mindset shift.

How To Balance Being Healthy In Your Hustle with Madelyn Carafa from The Healthy Hustlers

How To Balance Being Healthy In Your Hustle with Madelyn Carafa from The Healthy Hustlers

Are you someone who puts work before your own health?  Do you feel like in order to become successful you have to put yourself second to your work?  Do you dream of doing something you love but you are stuck in a job you hate?  Do you want to be the very best version of yourself in all aspects of life, not just in your career?  When you really think about it, are you taking care of your overall health?  Is it a priority?

As a society, we really wear busy like a badge of honour. We work hard, play harder but forget to take care of the vessel that drives all of this, our own bodies.  Not just physically here, but mentally too.  What happens when we feel this disconnect is we not only lose touch with ourselves, but the moments in our life that are special.  We get so caught up in the moment, that we forget to enjoy life and the little pockets of time where the real magic is made.  If we keep pushing and keep hustling, we will eventually burn out and when we look back on it, we will have so many moments that have passed us by because we were too busy working hard.  We want to open this conversation up before you get to the burn out stage or your health gets out of hand.

To help shed a little more light on this topic, I have the amazing Madelyn Carafa on the podcast today who is a podcast host herself and has interviewed some of Australia’s most successful people and she discusses the difference between these people and us.  The difference will surprise you… I will give you a hint: they take their health very seriously, and even more seriously the more successful they become.  As you grow in life, your health should grow too.  In order for you to move up the ladder in life, you need your health to stay a priority.  Because, without you, nothing happens.

In this episode we discuss:

  • The effects of not taking your health seriously

  • What successful people value when it comes to health

  • How to trust your intuition and follow your heart

  • Tips to break away from the corporate world

To help us understand this topic, I have the incredible Monica Yates on the podcast today.  She is a life and period coach and believes that owning your femininity is your secret weapon in life.
